About Ignite 2025
Ignite is a flagship impact accelerator supported by the Ford Family Foundation and leading UK universities. It empowers early-stage social ventures which are founded by students and graduates to scale through funding, expert mentorship, and national visibility. This year’s finalists will pitch live in London for a share of equity-free funding and ongoing support.

Who Should Apply
Ignite backs student and graduate-led ventures tackling social and environmental problems with scalable, entrepreneurial solutions. They’re open to all models – as long as you’re building something with:
- Clear purpose demonstrating measurable impact.
- Potential for long term sustainability.
- An ambitious founding team ready to lead change.
- A plan to generate 50%+ of income from trading.
Eligibility Requirements
To ensure fairness, transparency and to verify applicants as social enterprises, we’ve outlined specific criteria for participation. Please ensure you meet this prior to application:
- Have at least one founder who is a current student or recent graduate (past 3 years) of a UK university.
- Be a registered organisation.
- Operate with a legal structure that supports a social mission (e.g., reinvesting profits, asset lock, community benefit clauses).
- Show evidence of demonstratable social and/or environmental impact.
- Have early traction with revenue, users or pilots, etc.
- Be generating or planning to generate at least 50% of income through trading.
- Have turnover or investment to date under £100,000.
- Must be available for a live pitching final in October based in London.
What’s Involved
- Complete a written application (1500-word business plan) or 5-7-slide pitch deck.
- Submit a 5‑minute video pitch introducing your team and solution.
- Provide 12‑month cashflow forecast.
- Selected finalists receive one-to-one coaching and intellectual property (IP) support.
- Up to £20,000 prize for the grand winner, with a total of £50,000 shared among finalists.
How Applications Are Assessed
Applications are evaluated by a panel of expert judges across enterprise, impact, and investment sectors. Submissions are assessed against the following key criteria:
- Social Impact – Clear evidence of the problem being addressed and the difference the venture aims to make.
- Commercial Model – A sustainable, scalable business model with potential for long-term viability.
- Ambition – A compelling vision for growth and meaningful change at scale.
- Leadership – Strength, credibility, and lived experience within the team.
- Innovation – A bold or creative approach that challenges the status quo.
- Need – A strong case for how this opportunity (funding/support) will unlock the next stage of growth.
- Governance – Appropriate structure and oversight to deliver responsibly and ethically.
Authenticity, relevance to community need, and a readiness to act are just as important as polish. Judges are looking for ventures with real potential to drive impact.
