About the Opportunity
If gaming is already a big part of your life, why not use that interest to build real workplace experience?
Game Academy is offering a flexible three-week work experience placement for people who regularly play video games and are interested in exploring digital careers, education and technology. Rather than focusing on game development itself, you’ll get an insight into the different roles involved in running a digital organisation and supporting its online community.
Every placement is different, so there’s the opportunity to get involved in areas that match your interests and strengths from research and project support to community management and video production.
What You’ll Be Doing
Depending on your interests and the projects happening during your placement, you could get involved in:
- Project Support – helping monitor learner progress, maintain online systems and support programme delivery
- Community Support – helping manage Game Academy’s Discord community and encouraging people to engage with courses and events
- Research – finding employers, organisations and opportunities across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough
- Video Production – helping prepare, edit and organise recorded learning sessions and digital content
- Business Support – working alongside the Chief Executive on projects, programme recruitment, employer engagement and communications
- Using online tools such as Discord to communicate and work with the wider team

Who They’re Looking For
You don’t need previous work experience. This placement could be a great fit if you:
- Regularly play video games
- Are currently claiming Universal Credit
- Are interested in digital careers, technology or education
- Enjoy working and communicating with other people
- Are curious and willing to learn
- Have good timekeeping and can manage your responsibilities
- Have a friendly and professional attitude
- Already use Discord or are happy to learn how
Most importantly, Game Academy is looking for someone who wants to turn their existing interests into new skills and workplace experience.

Start Date: Flexible (placements are available until March 2027)
Delivery: Mostly remote, using Discord and other online tools
Hours: Flexible; typical working hours are 9am-5pm, with some activities between 6pm-8pm
Eligibility: This opportunity is available to suitable candidates who are claiming Universal Credit.
